How Remitr Works

But what about funding options – Direct Debit? Ledger Transfer? eTransfer?
We're breaking it all down, so you can make an informed decision on how you pay. But no matter which funding method you choose, your payment still gets there faster than with traditional banking. Total win!
Keep reading to see how our most popular payment and funding types work.
Local Payments
Local Payment - Funded by Direct Debit
When you create a payment before 2pm ET (this is critical), we’ll initiate the direct debit transaction immediately. Next step is to wait for your bank to release the funds to us. This typically takes one business day.
Once we’ve received the funds, your recipient gets their payment by 9pm ET the same day. The entire process, including waiting on your bank, only takes 1-2 business days.

Local Payment - Pre-funded
This one is pretty simple and super fast. If you’ve already added funds to your Remitr Ledger, any payment initiated before 2pm ET gets to your recipient by 9pm ET on the same day!

Local Payment - Funded by eTransfer
This one is a simple two-step process. First, create a payment with Remitr before 2pm ET. Then, initiate an eTransfer with your bank (also before before 2pm ET). The funds should arrive in your Remitr ledger shortly after, and your recipient will receive their payment by 9pm ET the same day!

International Payments
The vast majority of international payments on the Remitr platform can be made for just $5. Simply initiate the payment and leave the rest to us.
No more cheques, no more delayed payments, no more bank visits. Keep reading to see how our most popular international payment funding types work.
International Payment - Funded by Direct Debit (CAD)
Once you create the payment before 2pm ET (this is critical), we’ll be able to initiate the direct debit transaction immediately. Next step is to wait for your bank to release the funds to us, which typically takes one business day.
Once the funds arrive in your Remitr ledger, US recipients will get their payment by 9pm ET that day. Recipients in other countries will receive their payment the following day. The entire process, including waiting on your bank, only takes 2-3 business days.

International Payment - Funded By Direct Debit (USD)
This process is the very same as sending a direct debit international payment funded in CAD (see previous section). The only exception is that funds received to your Remitr ledger will be in USD. Once we’ve received the funds, your US recipients will get their payments by 9pm ET the same day. Recipients in other locations will receive their payments the following day.

International Payment - Pre-funded in CAD or USD
As with all the other funding types, you begin by creating a payment before 2pm ET. Since you’ve already got CAD or USD funds in your Remitr Ledger, your recipient will get their payment by 9pm ET the next day!

International Payment - Funded by eTransfer (CAD)
Just like local eTransfers, international payments funded by eTransfer also follow a two-step process.
First, create a payment with Remitr before 2pm ET. Then, initiate an eTransfer with your bank (also before before 2pm ET). The funds should arrive in your Remitr ledger shortly after, and your recipient will get their payment by 9pm ET the following day.
